Roy Ssemboga Questions Integrity of   Kawempe South Election Results

Former Kawempe South parliamentary aspirant, Roy Ssemboga, has raised concerns about the integrity of the results of the recently concluded general elections, claiming that despite receiving significant support from the people, the final outcome was altered at the tally centre in Kololo.

Speaking during Sanyuka One on One on Wednesday, Ssemboga, who ran as an independent candidate after losing the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket to Fred Nyanzi ‘Chairman’ Ssentamu, brother to party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, expressed his dissatisfaction with the electoral process and the transparency of vote tallying.

"In 2026, I received real support from the people, unlike in 2021. But the final results were changed at the Tally Centre in Kololo,” he said

Ssemboga further challenged the existing political system, emphasizing that government’s primary responsibility is to provide essential services to its citizens.

"Government collects taxes, and it is its responsibility to provide social services to the people. We cannot have a government that takes taxes without giving back the required services to the public," he said.

The outspoken opposition figure also commented on the current political landscape in Uganda, criticizing the lack of leadership training within political parties. He pointed out that no party in Uganda offers a genuine leadership school, which, according to him, has led to a lack of principled leadership across the board.

“There is no party in Uganda with a leadership school. We lack principles. Political parties should invest in educating their leaders to serve with integrity,” he said.

Despite the election outcome, Ssemboga reaffirmed his commitment to the opposition, stating, "I remain a member of the opposition, and I respect every party. I will support anyone who is on the struggle, regardless of party affiliation. The fight for a better Uganda is not about political parties but about the people."

In the 2026 election, Ssemboga lost to Madina Nsereko, the candidate of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), who was declared the winner of the Kawempe South seat after polling 18,591 votes followed by Nyanzi’s 11,292 votes. Ssemboga came third with 4,111 votes, followed by Ismail Tenywa with 472 votes and Muhammad Nsubuga with 350 votes.

Other candidates in the race included Hassan Ssenkungu of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Fatima Nansubuga of the Democratic Front (DF), Dafala Ssekanjako, Faisal Ddamulira, and Musa Kyagulanyi, among others.
